Knowing the origin and path of any new strain of the virus is only part of the necessary steps for making sure you don’t fall victim to the virus yourself. Below are a series of preventative tips to help you protect yourself from contracting the coronavirus.

Keep a supply of flu medicine to help you rest and get better. Over the counter medications don’t actually treat the coronavirus itself but they can help to reduce the severity of symptoms and provide much-needed relief so that, if you catch the virus, you’ll be able to properly rest and recover. Speak to your doctor or local pharmacist for recommendations that cater best to your own (and your family’s), individual circumstances.

Wash your hands often and wear a face mask. Your hands and your face are the frontline for catching or stopping an infection. Washing them often helps to ensure that you don’t catch the virus through eating or otherwise touching your face’s entry points for bacteria (eyes, mouth and nose). This tip is especially relevant for those who use public transit or work in heavily populated offices where common objects pass through many hands throughout the day. If hand washing isn’t an option in every situation then antibacterial gels (Purell, etc.) make for a quick solution. They aren’t as effective as hand washing however so don’t rely entirely on them as anything but a back-up. Wear a high quality face mask such as N95. There are a lot of N95 masks for sale on internet.

Quit smoking. It’s obviously much easier said than done but if you’re looking for another reason to help in tossing the pack then the virus can be added incentive. Smoking dampens your body’s natural immune system, making you more susceptible to catching an illness. Aside from the well-known harm that it can cause to a healthy body, smoking also places an individual at much greater risk during the pandemic. If you’re not a smoker then do your best to avoid second-hand smoke as well. Any exposure to smoke hurts your immune system and places you at a greater risk for becoming sick.
